Montenegro the 'new Monaco'
23 January 2009The Adriatic paradise of Montengro has been dubbed the 'new Monaco' by a respective travel journalist, as the country continues to attract the world's rich and famous.
As reported in the Times, areas of the tiny Balkan nation are attracting some of the planet's wealthiest tourists, with many choosing to drop anchor with their yacht at the stunning Bay of Kotor.
According to the newspaper, coastal destinations in Montenegro are set to be the surprise holiday package this summer.
Writing for the Times, Susan D'Arcy commented: "Once a Hollywood playground for the likes of Elizabeth Taylor and Sophia Loren, it could be hottest spot in the Med this summer, whatever the temperature on its pink-sand beaches."
She added those who did not "command an A-list salary" should instead consider jetting off to the region in spring.
Throughout history, Montenegro's Bay of Kotor has been administered by a number of different nations, including the Italian, French and Austro-Hungarian empires.
