More Britons may head to Croatia due to bad weather

The reports of a long, hot British summer by the MET office appear to have been premature and now Britons are looking for last minute breaks overseas.

That is according to ABTA – the travel association, which noted that weather predictions for Britain this August look set to be sketchy.

A huge surge in foreign bookings has been recognised by the organisation and this could lead to more bookings to popular sun spots such as Croatia.

Some of these bookings may be last minute according to ABTA which reported a 30 per cent rise in bookings over the last fortnight and many willing to travel within a week.

Egor Bondarev, marketing director at OrangeSmile.com, believes that there are advantages to using the internet to plan a getaway.

He said: "Talking about the advantages of arranging travel online versus offline, there are a number of them. [These are] cheaper rates, there is no need to get up from the sofa and go to a travel agency, there is a much wider choice than at a travel agency and there is no need to make fast decisions, as is often the case in travel shops."
