More cruise ship tourists set to enjoy Dubrovnik holiday in 2010
04 March 2010Dubrovnik will be a particularly popular spot for cruise ship tourists this year, with 1.2 million expected to leave their liner for the ancient city.
Vlaho Djurkovic, Dubrovnik Port Authority's director, believes there will be a 4.2 per cent rise in the number of people visiting the city via a cruise compared with 2009 figures, the Croatian Times reports.
Cruises on the Adriatic Sea are popular - perhaps because of its crystal-clear waters and healthy sprinkling of culture-rich cities along its coast.
A new docking area at Gruz has recently opened which will help the higher number of tourists arriving in Croatia as part of their holiday, the newspaper explains.
People heading to Croatia no longer have to pay for a visa to gain entry to the country - a factor which may have put some travellers off until now.
Dubrovnik has, in recent months, been suggested by the Guardian as one of Europe's top spots for a romantic holiday.
