Mountainside sports centre could become focal point of Croatian holidays
18 February 2010The highest mountain range in Croatia is to become "the centre of mountain tourism" in the country, says the Croatian Times.
People searching for a sports holiday may wish to consider booking a Croatian villa in the north-west of the Balkan country, where a mountain top recreation centre is set to open.
Ivancica will offer people on Croatian holidays a winter programme - featuring skiing and snowboarding - and a summer season, the newspaper reveals.
The new sports facility is designed to feature facilities across 15 sq km of the Croatian peaks.
Construction of the centre - which will be open 365 days a year - may encourage a significant surge in tourist numbers to Croatia's hilly northern territory.
Countryside lovers who head on a Croatian holiday in the area could spend a day away from the mountains in the ancient city of Zagreb, which is just a short drive away.
Zagreb is Croatia's largest city with a population of almost one million.
