Nature and culture 'is key to great Croatia holiday'
21 April 2010Croatia's growing popularity as one of Europe's premier holiday destinations is primarily due to its unspoilt nature and abundance of culture, says a tourism boss.
Meri Matesic, director at the Croatian National Tourist Office in London, believes it is the peace and beauty of the Adriatic country that lures people there.
She notes: "The tranquillity, simplicity and authenticity of the destinations you can still find anywhere in Croatia."
Another factor in Croatia's favour is its potential to expand and renovate, with the majority of its top spots operating below capacity.
Ms Matesic explains the country is anticipating a significant reconstruction of some key areas to cope with increased tourist demand.
These could include Dubrovnik - described recently by the Croatian National Tourist Board as the "most beautiful jewel" in heritage terms.
One popular activity among travellers to Dubrovnik is walking the perimeter of the city's ancient walls, which takes about an hour.
