New flight route could open up Balkans to Croatia visitors

Holidaymakers planning a trip to Croatia next year could decide to see more of the ex-Yugoslav area of Europe by taking advantage of new flights.

Croatia Airlines has announced that it will open a budget route between Zagreb and Belgrade on May 1st 2010, reports Blic Online.

With it soon to be convenient to travel between the capital cities of Croatia and Serbia, a double-destination holiday could be easier and cheaper than many people may expect.

The news could also be welcomed by Belgrade residents who will now be able to take a short break in Zagreb.

Also flying from Belgrade early next year are Romanian carrier Tarom - which will offer a route to Bucharest - and Slovenia's Adria Airways will establish a link to Llubjana.

This could mean all of the historic cities being easily accessible to tourists in Croatia.

Last month Tonci Peovic, the new director of Zagreb Airport, said he hopes to attract budget airlines such as Ryanair to offer flights to Croatia from the UK.
