New golf courses set for Croatia?

Discussions are underway on the possibility of providing those on holiday in Croatia with a number of new golf courses to enjoy.

According to the Desert Sun, a consul general of the country has been in California, US to speak to experts about constructing the new facilities in the Balkan nation.

Croatia is said to have identified 15 sites that are suitable for a new golf course, many of which could be in the country's most popular spots along the Dalmatian coast.

Judy Vossler, interim chief executive of Palm Springs Desert Resorts Convention and Visitors' Authority, tells the newspaper: "Golf is an international sport and it translates to an international language. Golfers like to travel around the world playing the best courses."

If Croatia can develop some globally-renowned challenges for golfers, a significant rise in the number of people travelling to the country could be expected.

The Croatian National Tourist Board says golf is becoming a popular pursuit in the country, citing its attractive countryside and gentle climate as ideal for the sport.
