Nowhere like Croatia for 'natural beauty'

Croatia provides unrivalled natural beauty and cultural heritage, a leading expert on the country has claimed.

Director of the of the Croatian UK Tourist Board, Meri Matesic, believes that the former Yugoslav Republic is becoming increasingly popular with visitors from all over the world due to its attractive combination of Mediterranean charm and impressive infrastructure.

Specifically, she singled out the Adriatic cost and the 1,000 islands which surround it as the perfect destination for any traveller.

Ms Matesic said: "Croatia is also known worldwide for its natural beauty and there are only a few countries in the world where you can find so many wonderful and different landscapes in such a small area."

She added that the walled coastal city of Dubrovnik was one of the country's most popular destinations.

"It has such a rich cultural and renowned beauty - it is unique," Ms Matesic concluded.

More than 57 million overnight stays were made in Croatia in 2008, data from the country's Bureau of Statistics revealed earlier this year.
