Opera and ballet open Split Summer Festival
16 July 2009Ballet and opera performances opened the Split Summer Festival this week, with a number of other Croatian cultural events scheduled for its duration.
People enjoying a holiday in Croatia this summer may wish to take in the wide range of festivities at the event, which lasts until August 14th.
A total of 1,500 artists hailing from 22 different countries are participating in this year's event, which has joined the European Musical Summer series of festivals for the first time, the Croatian Times reported.
Tourism website VisitSplit.com claims the festival has built an impressive national and international reputation.
It includes a variety of performances and exhibitions ranging from jazz concerts and film reviews to street theatre and dramatic performances sure to appeal to many people enjoying a Croatian holiday.
The site advised taking in a performance at HKN Split, a national theatre described as one of the "most vital spots" in Croatian theatre life.
