Peljesac Bridge 'on track for 2015 finish'

The Croatia travel network could have an eye-catching new feature in 2015 as construction on the Peljesac Bridge in southern Croatia is expected to reach completion that year.

A Croatian Times article reports comments made by Bozidar Kalmeta, minister of the sea, transport and infrastructure, that were published on Croatian-language news website Dubrovniknet.

He believes that completion of the project is six years away, making 2015 a landmark year for Croatian travel in the south of the country.

Upon completion the bridge is expected to be four lanes wide and the second-longest span on the continent at 2,374 m.

It aims to link the mainland of Croatia with the peninsular of Peljesac but has faced delays due to the recent economic turbulence.

However, holidaymakers on vacation in Croatia may opt to take to the water in order to navigate the channels of the Peljesac peninsula in the six years until the bridge is complete.

The Croatian National Tourist Board claims that doing so offers "a truly unique experience".
