Picturesque Rovinj 'is favourite of tourists in Croatia'
22 September 2010The quaint town of Rovinj has been named as the most popular spot in Istria among travellers to Croatia.
Tourist board figures reported by the Croatian Times show 2.3 million overnight stays were made in the resort, while 315,000 people visited.
Germans made up the largest portion of those spending time in Rovinj with 30 per cent of the nights spent in accommodation in the Croatian spot.
Italians (13 per cent) and the Dutch (12 per cent) were also revealed by the numbers to be keen tourists on the northern part of the Dalmatian coast, the newspaper states.
Officials believe the positive figures are likely to continue through to the end of 2010 in Rovinj, which Istrian daily publication Glas Istre describes as "the city of romance".
Jo Fernandez, writing for the London Evening Standard, recently suggested Rovinj is a beautiful place to visit, labelling it a slice of Venetian Italy.
