Ploughing competition could be big draw for holidaymakers in Croatia
20 January 2010Green-fingered tourists may wish to make a note in their diaries for a Croatian holiday in 2012, when the World Ploughing Contest comes to the country.
Croatian minister of agriculture Petar Cobankovic and World Ploughing Organisation (WPO) general secretary Hans Spieker met yesterday (January 19th) to confirm the event, reported the Croatian Times.
The competition will be held in Biograd by the Sea on the Dalmatian coast - which is considered by some to be one of Europe's most beautiful holiday hotspots.
Mr Cobankovic told the newspaper that the World Ploughing Contest would help to promote Croatian holidays and the Balkans as a tourist destination.
Croatia joined the WPO in 2007 and is one of 31 member nations - with four more expected to join in time to compete in Biograd in 2012.
The 2010 competition is taking place between April 10th and 19th in New Zealand, while last year's was held in the Czech Republic.
