'Record breaking' goulash served up
27 November 2008People in Croatia are hoping to enter the Guinness World Record books with their vineyard goulash.
Chefs in the country have prepared 1,200 litres of the food at the Katarina Fair and are applying for it to be considered in the record books, the Croatian Times reports.
According to reports, there is currently no such entry for the country's traditional cuisine.
The vat of food contained 400 kilos of meat, 150 kilos of potatoes and 100 kilos of onions and served up more than 3,000 portions to customers.
Bozidar Miodragovic, head chef and organiser, told the newspaper the secret to getting the perfect goulash is getting the ingredients correctly proportioned and including the right seasoning.
Money raised in the sale of the prospective record-breaking stew will go towards buying medical equipment for detecting leukaemia and lumphoma.
Croatia's cuisine was recently ranked in Expedia's top five emerging destinations.
The country's dishes are said to be based mainly on fish and is inspired by Greek and Hungarian cooking.
