'Renowned' cricket club to visit Croatia

Croatia is set to welcome the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) and its followers to the country next year.

Based at Lords, the self-proclaimed home of the sport, the touring club has decided to change its policy so it can visit more countries where it wishes to aid the development of the game.

The MCC has decided Croatia is to be the European country some of its 2,000 playing members will visit on fully-paid excursions this year, with these cricketers invited to enter a competition to enjoy a trip to the Balkan state.

John Stephenson, the club's head of cricket, said it is committed to developing the sport across the world, with tour members set to provide coaching and training to locals while on their travels.

He added: "All tours are equally important to the club and have a great potential to develop cricket in the host country."

The MCC was founded in 1787 and classes itself as "the world's most famous cricket club".

It continues to oversee the game's laws, as well as looking after Lords and promoting the sport worldwide.
