Ride the cable cars on a Dubrovnik holiday
03 February 2011Jet-setters on a Dubrovnik holiday keen to see the city from a fresh perspective might want to catch a ride in the cable cars and view the metropolis from above.
A video of the transport system is available on the Croatian Villas website, revealing how the cars wind their way 405m above terracotta roofs to the summit of Mount Srd, with great sights of the Adriatic coastline and the region's many islands to be seen.
The state-of-the-art cable cars were originally built in 1969 as the Dubrovnik gondola which, until it was closed in the early 1990s, attracted around 2.5 million visitors each year.
Now travellers can enjoy "amazing sunsets" from the comfort of the refurbished system, as well as taking in some refreshments at the summit's cafe, which overlooks the "magical" old town.
Those on holidays in Croatia might also like to try a spot of sailing, as Meri Matesic of the Croatian National Tourist Office recently noted that the area boasts a spectacular coastline and is the ideal climate for gadding about on boats.
