Russians who holiday in Croatia 'are classy'

Russians who take a vacation to Croatia have been commended by the Croatian tourism minister.

Damir Bajs said people from Russia who choose to holiday in Croatian accommodation are "high class", reports the Croatian Times.

It comes after the Austrian Times said that holidaymakers from Austria rate Croatia as one of their top holiday destinations.

Mr Bajs' comments followed a meeting with deputy Russian ambassador to Croatia Boris Medvedev earlier this week.

"Around 80 per cent of those who come to Croatia have a university education," he said. "An average Russian tourist spends more than 100 euros a day while other tourists spend around 56 euros."

Russians will no longer need a visa to travel to Croatia during the summer holiday season.

It is hoped that the change in legislation will help boost tourism in the Balkan country, which boasts a number of popular vacation hotspots such as Dubrovnik and the Dalmatia islands.
