24 November 2008Saab has opened a new office in Zagreb to promote is Gripen fighter aircraft and other business opportunities.
The company says the move is to market the new aircraft in the country but will also sell other naval and military products, including security solutions, reports Defence Professionals.
Fredrik Vahlquist, Sweden's ambassador in Croatia, says the move will "enable Croatia to further integrate economically into Europe".
Ulf Rudebark, director of Saab and Gripen International, tells the source the new Croatia office will open the door to other markets.
"We see Croatia not only as a potential buyer of Gripen, but also of our naval and other military products, as well as of our technical security solutions for airports and harbours," he adds.
Mr Rudebark states the Swedish government will support a "long-term financed solution" set specifically to Croatia's requirements.
Earlier this year, New Europe reported that Saab proposed to supply the Croatian air force with 12 Gripen fighters, starting in 2011.
