Serbia to receive Russian tourism boost
20 February 2009Tourism to Serbia is to receive a major tourism boost with the announcement of visa-free travel for Russian nationals.
As reported by the RIA Novosti news agency, travellers from the Russian Federation to the Balkan country will be able to stay for a month without having to apply for specific documentation.
The agreement was marked today (February 20th) in Moscow, where Russian foreign minister Sergei Lavrov and his opposite number in Serbia, Vuk Jeremic, signed a deal outlining the proposal.
Mr Jeremic told RIA Novosti: "As for parliamentary ratification, this will be a priority task for our government and we will propose that Serbia's parliament ratify it as soon as possible."
Elsewhere in the Balkans, Russian citizens already benefit from visa-free travel in Croatian, Macedonia and Montenegro.
Earlier this month, Turkish authorities expressed an interest in working alongside the Croatian government in developing new tourist opportunities in the Adriatic nation, the Anatolian news agency reported.
