Significant investment improves Croatian islands for holidays

People thinking of taking a holiday on one of Croatia's numerous islands may find their experience is enhanced thanks to the investment made in many of the spots.

State secretary for island development Josip Boric told a recent Island Council meeting in Vis that some 976 contracts have been approved in the last eight years, reported the Croatian Times.

He noted these related to construction and renovation work carried out in destinations that could include Korcula, Hvar and Brac.

Mr Boric also revealed the country has splashed out a total of 1.317 billion kunas (£160 million) on projects to improve the islands, the newspaper stated.

The result could be a modernised and fashionable place to take a break, with the area offering a wonderful climate and picturesque coasts.

Last month, Meri Matesic, director at the Croatian National Tourist Office, recommended Korcula and Kornati as two of the best islands to enjoy a vacation on.
