Slovakian president visits Croatia
27 November 2008The Slovakian president Danilo Tuerk has visited Croatia for the first time since he took the post last year.
Invited by Croatia's president, Stjepan Mesic, the official visit is intended to continue discussions between the two countries.
Both countries said earlier this year that any problems between them can be solved with discussion and mutual respect and the premiers hope to tackle some of these issues in the visit.
President Tuerk said: "Slovenia is interested in the progress of Croatia towards the [European] Union, and that is not disputed."
"For that potential to be realized, it is necessary to underline certain principles that will guide us in the future," he added.
The Slovenian president will also meet with the president of the Croatian parliament Luka Bebic, the premier Ivo Sanderand and members of the Clovenian national minority in Croatia.
Both the Turkish and German presidents have visited Croatia so far this year.
