Slovenia sees rise in European travellers
26 January 2009Numbers of European travellers visiting Slovenia have seen modest increases over the last year, despite the global economic climate.
That's according to statistics from Balkan nation's tourist board, which revealed a three per cent rise in tourist arrivals over 2007's figures.
November saw a small decline in visitors to the popular central European destination, but the tourism board is still expecting a busy 2009.
It said: "Despite November's downward trend in tourist arrivals and overnight stays, the overall results for Slovenian tourism remain positive."
The tourism board added that while the country had seen fewer visitors from Italy, Germany and Austria, it had actually seen significant rises in the number of people travelling to Slovenia from Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg.
Slovenia's capital Ljubljana is a major draw for travellers from all over the world, with many coming to see landmarks such as the Dragon Bridge and St Nicholas Cathedral.
