Slovenian town "jewel of the northern Adriatic coast"

The Slovenian town of Piran, between Italy and Croatia, attracts the visitor with rolling vineyards, beautiful coastal views and rich Italian cuisine.

Once an obscure medieval twin, Piran has the best parts of Italy without the mass of tourists, expensive prices and tacky places to stay.

There are glitzy hotels, spas and restaurants, but the well-preserved medieval charm of the town is what attracts visitors to the area, according to a writer on travel4press.co.uk.

Piran is located on a sloping peninsula and there is a maze of orange-hipped roofs, crumbling walls and a marble square which is packed on a weekend.

The cuisine of the town is fresh seafood and pasta, which is unmistakably Italian as Piran was ruled by Venice for 500 years, the source says.

An event will be staged in Bled in the country this festive season which will attract international tourists from all over the world.

The Circle of Friendship will be held on the penultimate day of the year, December 30th, and is a chance for friends to get together and celebrate the past 12 months.
