Snow turns Dalmatia into winter wonderland
18 February 2009A blanket of purest white snow covered Croatia's Dalmatian islands this morning (February 18th) following a surprise turn in the weather, it has been reported.
Temperatures which dipped below zero degrees Celsius and strong winds led to heavy snowfall of up to six centimetres along the Adriatic coast, according to the Croatian Times.
Snow in areas such as Split and Dalmatia is a rare occurrence due to the region's Mediterranean climate, making today all the more special for the locals.
As reported by the Croatian Times, one group who may be displeased by the events though is Split's football-loving contingent, who have expressed concerns that the weather may cause the cancellation of the hotly-anticipated match between Hadjuk and Dinamo Zagreb.
Depending on their preference, travellers to Croatia in the near future may be pleased to know that the weather is due to improve within the next few days.
Visitors from the US will also be delighted to here that British Airways has announced a sale on its flights from New York to Dubrovnik for those who book before the end of March.
