Southern Dalmatia to host 'Pirate Night'
14 August 2009The port of Omis in Southern Dalmatia is to be the setting for the 2009 Battle of Pirates event this month (August 18th).
Between the 12th and 14th century Omis was notorious as a pirate city and for one-day-only the port will be transformed back to the time when brigands ruled the area.
The city's tourist board is embracing the villainous history that surrounds the city by helping to recreate a sea battle between pirates and the Venetians.
Tributes will be paid to the rich and interesting history of this unique city in a day which will see fun and festivities suitable for travellers young and old.
Visitors to the area will also be able to enjoy its colourful market place as well as a host of culinary attractions such as bistros, cafes, and restaurants.
The area is well known for its spectacular riviera and the Cetina river, which runs through a breathtaking canyon.
