Split Oktoberfest could have lured tourists to Croatia
09 November 2009Holidaymakers in Croatia may be waking with a sore head this morning (November 9th) after the country's answer to Germany's Oktoberfest came to an end last night.
The Split Day of Beer event was held at Bacvice beach on the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, reports the Croatian Times.
Split Croatian-German Association head Zoran Ribarovic said he hopes the festival will now be held every year - which may be good news for beer fans planning a trip to the Adriatic coast.
Mr Ribarovic also revealed that he believes the event illustrates the mutual respect between the two countries.
"Our wish is to celebrate the Oktoberfest every year because Croatia and Germany are two friendly countries," he said.
As well as drinking high-quality ales, festival-goers sang, danced and listened to music through the night.
Split is set to welcome the return of its humanitarian Christmas bazaar next month - an event which raises money for those who need it most.
