Split has successful 2009 tourist season
28 September 2009The popular tourist haunt of Split has had a good year for tourism so far.
That is according to Boris Zgomba from the Association of Croatian Travel Agencies, who has told the Croatian Times that this year has been a "relative success".
He suggested that now the Croatian holiday industry is looking to next year's summer break takers.
Mr Zgomba told the publication: "We were luck this year. No one in the world had expected a crisis, so many were not prepared for what was coming.
"But the 2010 season will be a tough one for tourism. Other markets that dropped this year will make an extra effort to attract more tourists next year."
Split offers an array of things to do for people on a holiday near the city.
The Statue of Gregory of Nin is a popular site in the coastal city - rubbing the big toe of the statue is said to bring good luck and so many people have done it over the years that it has now turned shiny.
