Tourists arrive in Croatia by road
24 August 2009Cars and buses provide the transport into Croatia for 90 per cent of tourists heading into the country.
That is according to government data, which revealed that only ten per cent of holidaymakers are arriving by aeroplane, the Croatian Times reports.
During the recession many Mediterranean sun-spots have suffered massive drops in visitor numbers but fashionable Croatia has only reported a loss of five per cent in tourist arrivals.
However, due to the quietness of airports such as Dubrovnik in the country, the tourism minister for Croatia Damir Bajs insists that he will take special measures to help the travel hub, reports the newspaper.
The relatively quiet airports of Croatia may potentially give international holidaymakers an ideal welcome to the country without having to contend with huge queues and bustling baggage checks.
Dubrovnik has been a popular choice for glamorous tourists this year after RnB singer Beyonce was spotted enjoying the sunshine in the city.
