Tourists attracted to Montenegro 'by stars'
23 September 2008Performances by well-known artists like Madonna and the Rolling Stones are helping to raise the profile of Montenegro, it has been claimed.
Tina Miles, writing in the Liverpool Echo, said people may also have been attracted to the country by Daniel Craig's debut performance as James Bond in Casino Royale.
She said it is the country's "stunning scenery", with "dramatic coastline and soaring peaks" which is attracting film crews and tourists alike to Montenegro.
Ms Miles compares it in the newspaper to nearby neighbour Croatia, commenting that both nations have similar qualities, such as "secluded coves, uncrowded beaches and historic towns".
The island resort of Sveti Stefan and the Budva Riviera are pinpointed as particularly popular areas for tourists, with "plenty of bars, cafes and clubs to entertain".
It was recently reported by earthtimes.org Montenegro is attempting to take advantage of its "undisputed beauty of its mountains and coastline" to attract more visitors.
Government estimates state the country catered to 610,000 by the end of August, a seven per cent rise on the previous year.
