Tourists could book Croatian holiday now for best deal

Travellers eyeing up a break in Dubrovnik, Split or Zagreb may wish to follow the advice of one newspaper and book as soon as possible.

January is one of the best times to secure an overseas trip, according to the Telegraph, with heavy Christmas spending giving way to a tightening of most people's purse strings, meaning holiday costs can fall.

Croatia offers an intriguing blend of snowy mountains with ski resorts and historic cities - meaning there could be something for everyone early in 2010.

The newspaper states: "For the next three weeks, the cost of skiing, winter sun and city breaks will be at the absolute lowest. You will find pistes almost empty, museums quiet and beaches peaceful."

Missing out on the large summer crowds could, for many, be the most ideal way to explore the ancient cities of Dubrovnik and Split or take to the slopes in Plitvice.

Tourists could take advantage of two new routes being opened this year by budget airline easyJet - to Split and Dubrovnik - in order to reach their Croatian villa.
