Tourists must visit Dubrovnik's old town, says expert
18 March 2010Dubrovnik's old town, including its famous walls, is the "number one attraction" in the ancient city, according to one expert.
Meri Matesic, director of the Croatian National Tourist Office for London, says those on a Croatia holiday are likely to enjoy a stroll along the 1,940-metre long walls.
The route passes five forts and 16 towers and bastions, which may be of significant interest to history fans visiting the city.
Ms Matesic adds: "Then of course there is a beautiful sea view from the walls and another to the city itself."
Travellers to Croatia may also find the prospect of Dubrovnik's immaculate beaches, just a short distance from the walls, an attractive one.
Dubrovnik is described by VisitCroatia as a "truly stunning city" with an "amazing old town".
Several major airlines - including British Airways, easyJet and Flybe - link the UK to the southern Croatia tourist hotspot.
