Travel Croatia: Dubrovnik recommended to holidaymakers

Dubrovnik is one of the best restored wall cities in Europe and makes for "the perfect break", it is reported.

The Daily Telegraph states the historic town offers "immense walls" and "hidden delights for the discerning traveller".

A Unesco heritage site, Dubrovnik has shady alleyways juxtaposed with marble pavements and square filled with columns, according to the newspaper.

It is also said the town's terracotta tiles and "well-patched stonework" create a "visual harmony".

Travellers are particularly recommended to visit between July 10th and August 25th when the Dubrovnik Summer Festival takes place, with classic recitals and drama, dance and folk performances hosted for the enjoyment of locals and tourists alike.

US holidaymakers are among those who have been urged to visit the town and the rest of the country recently.

Speaking in the Dallas Morning News, Nena Komarica of the Croatian National Tourist Board urged American tourists to explore Dubrovnik and "up and coming regions" like Istria and Kvarner.
