Travel insurance could be crucial on Croatian winter break
19 January 2010People heading on a Croatian holiday this winter should secure travel insurance before they travel, according to a journalist.
Jill Insley, writing for the Guardian, says that those heading on winter holidays are particularly at risk, with tourists "only having to look at video clips" online to realise the dangers associated with snow sports.
According to figures by the Ski Club of Great Britain, more than half of Britons jetting off to spots such as Croatia will go without insurance this winter.
And danger is not confined to the slopes, with horse riding and football accidents both said to cause more injuries than skiing, the club states.
With all of those activities popular in Croatia - and resorts such as Dubrovnik and Split likely to be busy as travellers seek winter sun - it may be worth investing in travel insurance prior to departure.
Ms Insley has one final word of warning, saying: "If you or your children are taking part in fun races with the ski or snowboard school, ensure this is covered. Many policies do not cover racing, not even recreational races."
The Ski Club of Great Britain last year suggested that destinations such as Croatia - which fall outside of the eurozone - will be especially busy with skiers this winter.
