31 March 2011Wildlife lovers have been given another incentive to travel to Croatia for a sunshine break – the chance to enjoy a revamped Zagreb Zoo.
The facility in the capital is now close to gaining permission to start constructing new facilities, reported the Croatian Times following a piece by Jutarnji List.
It would result in the quality of the venue – for both animals and visitors – being brought up to the level of the best zoos in Europe.
Zagreb city authorities have already promised to invest 2.5 million kunas (£297,000) in the project, meaning it can almost certainly go ahead.
As a result of improvements, the lions' enclosure will expand to 12 times its current size, with the new pavilion due to open in less than a year, according to the news source.
Those taking holidays in Zagreb can reach the Croatian capital with new flights from easyJet, after the budget airline last month opened up a route linking the city with London Gatwick.
