Travel to Croatia for "special charm" of Opatija

A travel writer has highlighted some of the best aspects of Opatija for those who intend to travel to Croatia in the coming months.

Julia Warren, author of a piece for the Daily Telegraph, said Angiolina Park is a particularly beautiful spot, with palm trees and exotic shrubs lining the way.

However, should visitors turn around, they will find gardens that are meticulously prepared in a Viennese style and a large fountain as the focal point.

"It is this contrast which gives Opatija its special charm today," stated Ms Warren, adding a walk along the promenade is another of her favourite activities.

She went on to suggest there are plenty of historic and fascinating spots in the town, but "head up to Marsala Tita and a wave of designer boutiques, salons and cocktail bars confirm that we are well and truly in 2011".

Opatija is located at the northern end of the Dalmatian coast, in the heart of Kvarner region.
