Travel to Croatia to view unique Leonardo Da Vinci cannon
13 June 2011Historians might be rushing to travel to Croatia over the coming weeks and days after an ancient cannon design by Leonardo Da Vinci was found in the country.
According to the Croatian Times, the artillery, which was created in the 15th century, is possibly the only object of its type in the world.
It is instantly recognisable because of its unique triple-barrel appearance and was found in the town of Benkovac.
Schoolchildren had originally uncovered the cannon four decades ago, but archaeologists have only recently been able to confirm that the item is by Da Vinci.
A replica of the cannon exists in Milan, but it is not known whether there are any other authentic Da Vinci cannons remaining, the news source noted.
It has gone on display in a museum in Benkovac, giving people the chance to travel to Croatia for a glimpse of the fascinating object.
The same publication last week quoted statistics by Business that showed holidays in Croatia are seemingly more popular, after the country's airports experienced a strong rise in passenger numbers.
