Travel to Dubrovnik for "gem of a city"
05 January 2011British holidaymakers may wish to travel to Dubrovnik for a break, if the words of one newspaper are to be believed.
The Bangkok Post labels the popular resort in the south of Croatia the "pearl of the Adriatic" and "a gem of a city" in a recent report.
It goes on to note it is "not surprising" that Dubrovnik is the most popular visitor destination in the country, bearing in mind its rich medieval history and proximity to the beautiful Adriatic Sea.
With the rise of the internet, the location is becoming less of a secret among travellers.
Indeed, commenting on the thousands of arrivals in the city each year, the newspaper states: "Perhaps some of those tourists had fallen in love with Dubrovnik long before they even got to see the real thing."
The Dubrovnik Tourist Board recently released figures - reported by the Croatian Times – showing the number of people taking a vacation in the area in 2010 increased by 13 per cent compared with 2009.
