UK students to prepare for Zadar hitchhike
09 April 2009Intrepid British students are preparing for possibly the toughest task of the academic year in the form of a hitchhiking trip to Zadar.
The group of undergraduates from Sheffield University will make the journey from their home city in the north of England to the Adriatic resort next week, the Sheffield Telegraph reported.
About 350 students are expected to take part in the yearly Bummit challenge, which gives travellers just a week to use whatever means necessary to make it to Croatia.
Behind all the merriment there is also a worthy cause, with £70,000 in sponsorship cash expected to be raised for charities such as the Parkinson's Society, STOP and Cavendish Cancer Care.
Unfortunately, the hitchhikers will not have this kind of spending money at their disposal for the journey, with each having an allowance of just £15 for the week, the newspaper added.
A popular destination with tourists, Zadar offers a number of cultural attractions, pleasant weather and sandy beaches.
