US-Croatia travel supported by Open Skies Agreement
07 February 2011Croatia travel to and from the US is now being supported by an Open Skies Agreement signed by US secretary of state Hillary Clinton and Gordan Jandrokovic, Croatian deputy prime minister and foreign minister.
This could pave the way for direct flights between the two nations, with Ms Clinton stating that it would allow for an "open travel corridor" and will "go a long way to increasing the flow of tourism to the beautiful country that Croatia is".
Mr Jandrokovic made further comments, stating that Croatia is looking forward to forging stronger economic ties with the US and this move will surely result in increased tourism opportunities for both nations, adding that American companies will find areas for investment such as transport, energy and water management in the region.
It is possible direct flights could be set up in time for Croatia's Culture Olympics, due to take place in 2012, the Croatian Times reported.
Poets, actors, film-makers and artists will all be on hand to showcase their talents.
