US back Croatia Nato membership
28 October 2008Croatia's membership into Nato has been officially endorsed, with US president George Bush signing an agreement backing the country.
The signed protocols are the first step for Croatia, along with Albania, to become a member of the organisation and the president calling on other Balkan and former Soviet countries to join Nato, which may interest those wanting to holiday in Croatia.
Mr Bush commented: "The people of Albania and Croatia are helping move the world closer to a great triumph of history - a Europe that is whole, a Europe that is free and a Europe that is at peace."
He also 'celebrated' the fact that Croatia and Albania were looking to seek new responsibilities on the international stage.
The countries' entry into Nato depends on the approval of the body's 26 existing members.
Last month, it was revealed Croatia will receive funding to aid institution building, cross-border cooperation and preparation for the country's accession to the European Union.
