Unique culinary event for tourists in Zagreb

Tourists who are heading for the Croatian capital could be set to visit a culinary event celebrating the traditional foods in the area of Vrbovec in Zagreb County.

The Kaj su jeli nasi stari, or 'what our ancestors ate' festival is a three-day event which will enable holidaymakers from all over the world learn about, smell and taste the gastronomic output of the region.

It is held annually in an effort to maintain the traditions of Croatian food as well as to attract to fans to the recipes.

The mayor of Vrbovec Vladimir Bregovic recently told the Croatian Times that more than 50,000 revellers had descended on the event in 2008 and it is expected that an even bigger number will sample its delights this year.

Live music and activities for children will also feature during the celebrations, which begin on August 28th and run until August 30th in Zagreb County.
