Vineyards of Croatia could be destination for ideal relaxing holiday
30 November 2009Croatia is emerging as one of Europe's leading wine manufacturers, meaning connoisseurs may wish to holiday near the vast vineyards in the Balkan country.
A host of different wines are on offer - from Riesling, Pinot and Chardonnay in Croatia's north to Merlot and Teran in the Istria region - according to online tourist guide Guide2Croatia.
The website writes: "There is nothing more spectacular than having a glass of magnificent Dingac wine while overlooking sunset on the beautiful Dalmatian coast. The wine can be served combined with some of the Croatian meat specialities of quality fresh fish."
Travellers are advised that types of wine vary greatly as they move across Croatia, with the country's rich and historical cultural diversity the most common cause.
Croatia could soon rival other leading European wine producers such as France and Portugal, making a Croatian villa in the heart of the Istria region an ideal base from which to explore and enjoy.
Wine lovers planning a Balkan break may want to combine their passion for the beverage with a visit to the ancient walls of Dubrovnik which were this week labelled "magnificent" by the Toronto Star.
