'Visit Split' during Croatia travel trip
25 June 2009Anyone heading on a holiday to Croatia this year should consider Split as a vacation destination.
In the eyes of one of the country's tourism industry experts, the city is a "beautiful place" to visit, yet is often overlooked by holidaymakers.
Vesna Maric, an author involved with the Lonely Planet Croatia travel guide books, also recommended one of the historic landmarks in the city as a place to explore.
"The Diocletian's Palace is a legendary architectural peak," she explained. "Many western architectural cities are modelled on this palace."
Commenting on Split more generally, Ms Maric noted its "very good night life" and the fact it is located close to some of Dalmatia's most popular islands.
Indeed, there is a regular ferry service that takes people from the mainland to the islands, which could be an attractive day trip option for anyone staying in Dalmatia accommodation in Split this summer.
