Visitors to Split may have enjoyed Simple Minds gig
16 November 2009Tourists in Croatia could have been amongst the 7,000-strong crowd that packed into Split's Spaladium Arena last Friday for a Simple Minds concert.
Jim Kerr, the band's charismatic frontman, fought off the worst of a flu outbreak to deliver a performance that sent the army of fans wild, reports the Croatian Times.
He admitted at one point that doctors had warned him he should not perform but that he had ignored medical advice because he refused to let fans down.
Afterwards the lead singer said: "It was a magical night. The band and the audience really came together. This was our first time in Split and we won't forget it."
Organisers last week promised anyone turning up in the famous green and white shirt of Celtic FC - the team Kerr supports - a free ticket for the concert.
They were rewarded when it was reported that more than 20 people had taken up the offer and wore the iconic jersey to welcome Kerr to Croatia.
