Weekend warm spell hits Zagreb

Visitors to Zagreb this weekend were hit by an unexpected warm spell as temperatures soared in the capital.

The entertainment portal Javno reported that the city's residents responded to the warmer climes this weekend by ditching their winter wares and donning colourful outfits in preparation for spring.

As much of Croatia has been hit by plummeting temperatures in recent weeks, local fashionistas grabbed the opportunity with both hands.

Writing for Javno, Jana Busic commented: "While the main fashion accessories in downtown Zagreb were hats and scarves … the trendsetters got their colourful handbags out of the closet and designer sunglasses."

She added that, despite the warm turn, cold chills had the tendency to "creep up over night" in the Croatian capital.

Changes in Croatian legislation which take effect next month are set to allow foreign nationals to buy property in the country without restrictions.
