Zadar boat ride on Croatian holiday 'is romantic Valentine's treat'

Loved-up couples searching for a romantic Valentine's getaway may find one attractive option is to take a Croatian holiday in Zadar.

Taking in a scenic boat rise across the city's harbour between the Maraska liquer building and Zadar's old town is cited by the Croatian National Tourism Board as one of the country's most special activities.

Alfred Hitchcock once declared the sunset over Zadar was the most beautiful he had ever seen - and they could provide a beautiful backdrop for any romantics staying in a Croatian villa in the north of the country next week.

The city's authority has even installed an ultra-violet light to spell out a warm greeting in the night sky.

Boat rides in Zadar - which is popular among people who travel to Croatia - are run by boatmen who have been operating vessels on the routes since the 12th century.

Hannah Betts, writing in The Times, last year suggested that Zadar is the ideal location for a "lazy weekend".
