Zagreb University links with US

The University of Zagreb is part of a joint scheme to develop a new educational course entitled Homeland Security Studies.

Lecturers from Croatia and the US will teach the curriculum in English, according to Reuters news agency.

It will be the first of its kind in the central and south-east European regions and if plans are successful the first students will enrol in 2010.

The co-operation between Croatia and the US could attract a number of visitors to Zagreb with the possibility of international students making their way to the country.

Zagreb has received world-wide recognition on numerous occasions in recent months.

One such occasion saw acclaimed rock band U2 play two gigs to a total of more than 120,000 fans in the city, according to AFP.

Tourists from around south-eastern Europe are said to have travelled to the cosmopolitan area to watch the band.
