Zagreb church could tempt travellers to Croatia
11 May 2011Religious Britons might wish to put a holiday in Croatia at the top of their list after learning of details of a church in Zagreb.
The Croatian Times reports that St Mark's Church has recently ordered a brand new organ, which is due to be delivered from a German designer.
Wolfgang Eisenbarth has crafted the musical instrument worth €450,000 (£391,000) specially for the building in the capital.
St Mark's was the first church in Croatia's history to feature an organ, with various records showing it first stood there in either 1359 or 1363, the newspaper noted.
The new organ is replacing one that was deemed too damaged to continue in use, although its outer case dating back to 1890 has been retained for the new design.
In February, budget airline easyJet opened up a route between London Gatwick and Zagreb, making the Croatian capital even more accessible to British tourists.
