Zagreb tourist numbers 'on the up'
22 September 2008There was a ten per cent increase in the number of foreign tourists visiting Zagreb from the beginning of the year until the end of July, it has been revealed.
According to the city's office for strategic planning and city development, there was an overall 9.2 per cent increase (272,000) in travellers coming into the Croatian capital for the same period, reports Javno.com.
In addition, there was an 8.6 per cent rise in the number of people who decided to stay overnight in Zagreb.
The news provider states this follows information from Hostelworld.com, which suggested the city is one of the top-ten hotspots in the world.
It suggests the range of events offered by the capital, architecture and "Mediterranean influence" are all helping to tempt travellers.
Meanwhile, a travel article in the Times recently suggested Zagreb is an ideal destination for an autumn city break.
Celebrity-spotting, being able to travel around by foot and the "intriguing blend" of busy squares and leafy suburbs were all cited as reasons to visit.
