The villages, castles and hill-top towns of the interior offer peace and quiet, even in the heart of the high season. There are great views from the town walls at Motovun, a great place to sample Truffles, whilst the cobbled alleyways, stone houses, small churches and pretty town squares of out-of-theway villages such as Groznjan, Roc, Hum and Svetvincenat offer an idyllic resting-point after exploring the lush surrounding countryside. More adventurous walkers will be tempted to climb the region’s highest point in the Ucka massif, with views of Venice possible on a clear day. It’s also possible to explore the region by bike, with a number of cycling routes to choose from:
