Croatian Grand Prix will open Powerboat season
11 November 2009People in London could be tempted to book a Croatian holiday after the country's most famous boat race was promoted in the English capital.
The Powerboat race, dubbed the Croatian Grand Prix of the Sea, is the first event on the calendar for the sport's 2010 season.
It will be held in Split between April 15th and 19th next year after a high-profile London launch at this week's World Tourism Fair.
Powerboat P1 chairman and chief executive officer Asif Rangoonwala said: "Split has great opportunities, and we believe it will know how to use them and to promote itself as a nautical tourism centre."
Croatian P1 promoter Tomislav Misetic said he is expecting more than 20,000 people to attend the race, many of whom may be looking to book a break on the Adriatic coast.
Last weekend Split held its own version of Germany's famous Oktoberfest event - which may have attracted thousands of tourists to the city.
